Kate’s £6,500 for the Children’s Deaf Society – And counting!

A big thank you for your financial support and good wishes for Kate in the London Marathon.
This photograph taken at the 20-mile mark was typical of her attitude and demeanor all through the race. Stopping for selfies with friends, family, and other Children’s Deaf Society runners did not result in a record time.
But, without these hold ups and if she had worn a pair of £450 Addidas trainers, Kate claims she could have narrowed the 2-hour gap between herself and Tigst Assefa, who’s ladies winning time was 2 hours 15 minutes!

Stopping for cuddles was not part of Kate’s training schedule!!
Kate’s original target of raising £3,500 for the Children’s Deaf Society was increased to £5,000 as the donations came in. Eventually, she raised £6,500 for children who, like her daughter Jess, are deaf. Kate was so pleased with the money raised that she is already planning to run next year to add to her contribution.
With 3 young children, all at different schools, along with her role as marketing director at Soho based Greater London Properties (GLP), fitting in training runs for the marathon was not easy. Kate overcame this problem by undertaking 3 mid-week runs starting at 6am, throughout the winter months. These allied to at least 1 long run 12-15 miles every weekend, culminating in 20 miles + nearer the event meant she was in excellent shape for the run itself, which she described as emotionally uplifting.
This was a truly remarkable effort, from a truly remarkable mother and daughter.
Thanks again to all those who contributed and made all Kate’s efforts worthwhile, along with the many thousands of others who also made the day an uplifting experience.
As ever, any thoughts you may have on the content would be welcome.
