2011-11-09 National Flexible Goes 'Pop'
National Flexible have used Kodak's high-definition print technology to produce film for the launch of a new retail range of flavoured popcorn. The artisan producers of the unusual product wanted the benefit of a contemporary look that would help them stand out from the competition and drive new sales.
Our print team were able to use the innovative system to reduce the number of colours down to a bare minimum - saving our customer a significant amount in origination fees. The high quality prints were produced from a limited palette of only 5 colours across the two different designs, bringing us ever closer to the development of a more comprehensive spotless colour system which would potentially see all flexo designs printed from only 4 process colours plus white.

We have continued to build on our expertise with Kodak's Flexcel NX system by introducing the innovative print technology to major retailers, ensuring that end consumers get the benefit of enhanced in-store appeal from high-quality packaging artwork.
Rapidly becoming the industry norm in flexographic printing, the Flexcel NX system not only allows for true 1:1 image reproduction, improved fine detail, smoother ink transfer and stronger colour density - but it also offers long-term cost savings versus conventional printing.
Earlier in the year we used the full Kodak system end-to-end in its entirety - producing groundbreaking results by achieving gravure quality print from flexo plates. The initial project was pioneered through working in partnership with Kodak's development team.
2011-08-03 Germ Warfare Begins
We have expanded our portfolio of films to include a new material that directly addresses recent health-scare problems facing the food industry.
The new anti-bacterial film makes use of silver ion technology as a way of inhibiting bacterial and microbial activity on the surface of the film. Just like the ‘well known brand of bleach’ the film is effective in eliminating 99.9% of bacteria on packed product in contact with the film.
This includes effectively attacking the Staphylococcus bacteria as well as Escherichia Coli (E.coli) which was at the source of recent food poisoning outbreaks and has potentially cost the food industry millions through lost confidence as end consumers seek assurances about food safety.
The film’s performance has been independently tested under ISO:22196 and meets approval for direct food contact. It can be applied in a variety of packaging formats for products such as fresh and prepared produce where its unique properties potentially offer extended shelf life. Extra anti-fog properties can be added to the film if required.
The film is identical in performance and appearance to standard BOPP films and can be used on existing packing lines without any modification to the machinery.
