Laminates

With our expert technical knowledge and many years of experience, National Flexible are able to combine unique elements of single web films into a wide variety of custom-made laminates to suit the appearance, shelf-life, performance and machinability required from your packaging films. Here are some examples of the more commonly used combinations:-

OPP/OPP or cast PP

OPP/OPP or cast PP

Widely used for VFFS or HFFS applications in preference to single webs due to improved presentation when the film is printed. Inks are sandwiched between the film layers giving a glossy, scuff-resistant finish. CPP sealing layers give improved resistance to scuffing or scratching on the inside of the film when packing abrasive products such as nuts, lentils, rice, etc.

PET/LLDPE

When seal integrity is essential, a quality hot-tack PE handles any seal contamination issues and supports a heavy pack weight. A metallised PET or PE layer gives a premium ‘foil style’ appearance plus excellent oxygen, moisture and light barrier properties. These films are ideal for dry foods, flours, sauces, etc.

PET (or paper)/ALU/PE (or surlyn)

Aluminium, up to 15 microns, offers the ultimate barrier for sensitive or long life products. PET outer layer gives a tough glossy finish; paper adds tearability for easy opening. The seal layer can be tailored to suit specific products on VFFS or sachet machinery for packing powders, liquids, gels, granules, etc.

PA/PE co-extrusion

These multi-layer films are available in a wide range of grades and thicknesses. Designed for thermoforming, they can be used for meats, cheese, fish, breads or medical components. High barrier EVOH layers can be added for products requiring extra shelf-life.

PET/Universal seal PE

PET/Universal seal PE

This is a specialist film designed for multiple tray-lidding applications, giving a strong peel and which seals to a range of trays including APET, PP, PVC, etc. This film allows for standardisation across different packing lines, reducing the number of reels and changeovers needed. An optional PVdC coating adds extra barrier properties for products such as pasta, desserts, etc.

OPA or PET/PE-EVOH-PE

OPA or PET/PE-EVOH-PE

Where clear, high barrier film is required this offers an ideal solution. Suitable for M.A.P. applications or the packing of aggressive products. A variety of selling options allows for lidding, thermoforming, sachet and flow-wrap applications. OPA offers extra strength and puncture resistance for large volume or abrasive products such as cheese, chilli powders, curry sauces, etc.
